Driveway in the Sky

Ise-Shima Skyline, a “driveway in the sky” that connects Ise and Toba, is located in “Ise-Shima National Park“. A grand, panoramic view of the vast Ise Plain, the sea famous for pearls, and the Ise-Shima area spreads out below you. Please enjoy a slow drive on Mt. Asamayama while being surrounded by a lot of excitement. “Ise-Shima National Park” covers central Mie Prefecture, including most of the Shima Peninsula. At the observation platform on the top of Mt. Asamayama, there the footbath “Tenbo Ashiyu” where you can enjoy the vista slowly and comfortably. Also there is “Tenku no Post (the retro postbox called Japan Type 1 Cylindrical Postbox)” designated as the holy place for lovers. Besides, Kongo Shoji temple is located near the driveway. It is a famous temple said to protect demon’s gate(the northeastern direction) of Ise JIngu shrine. Traditionally, pilgrims always paid visits to this temple on their way to Ise Jingu shrine. Because, it is sung in the folk song of Ise Ondo, “If you visit Ise, should stop at Asama. If you don’t stop at Asama and visit Ise, that is not enough”.

A bright red postbox located on the viewing platform on the top of Mt. Asamayama makes any first-time visitor wonder. The red-colored retro postbox called Japan Type 1 Cylindrical Postbox is installed so that be shined in the blue sky, has an impact that makes you want to point the camera involuntarily. The postbox located on the square on the mountain top looks like a movie set, but it is an active postbox can usualy use. Due to its appearance, it is familiar as “Tenku no Post (Postbox in the Sky)”. As a letter posted in the postbox is collected every day, and “Ise” is postmarked on the letter, it is an ideal way to leave the memories of your trip. At a stand on the mountain top, postage stamps and picture postcards are sold, so you can post a letter if you don’t have them. .
A grand, panoramic view of the Ise Bay seen from the Asiyu (footbath) on the observation platform located on the mountaintop of Mt. Asamayama is a breathtaking vista! It is possible to overlook a 360-degree panorama vista while soaking your feet in the Asiyu (footbath). On sunny days, the Japan Alps and Mt. Fuji may be seen. On a vast garden of 150,000 square meters on the summit, seasonal flowers such as the Asama Seven Herbs or Jingu Azalea can be enjoyed. Also, a hammock is available, also the promenade is maintained.
The temple, Asama-ga-take Kongo-shoji is also known as an inner sanctuary that protects the enemy’s gate of Ise Jingu shrine, and it is sung in a popular song in the Ise Ondo poem, “If you visit Ise, should stop at Asama. If you don’t stop at Asama and visit Ise, that is not enough.” and people who planed to visit Ise usually paid a visit to this temple on the way too.
