Mountain sightseeing road in the sky
Zao High Line is a 2.5-kilometer mountain toll road located within “Zao Quasi-National Park“, diverging from the Zao Echo Line. It is possible to enjoy the different scenery in each of the four seasons, such as a snow cloister in spring, new green leaves with a fresh breeze in summer, and colorful fall colors in autumn. On sunny days, you can see a brightly-colored emerald green crater lake called “Okama,” a symbol of Zao, located a few minutes walking distance from the parking lot on the mountaintop. ※Click here for the highlights of Zao Quasi-National Park (Sorry, this site is only available in Japanese)
We also recommend a drive where you can stretch your legs and take in the impressive scenery of the volcanic land of Bandai-Asahi National Park, as well as the beautiful and varied landscape of large and small lakes, marshes, and forests. The Bandai-Asahi National Park covers a vast range from the Dewasanzan, Asahi, Iide, and Azuma Mountain Ranges, to Mt. Bandai and Lake Inawashiro, and is Japan’s second largest national park on land. ※Click here for the highlights of Bandai-Asahi National Park
